Join us for our annual Workers’ Memorial Day/May Day community gathering, both celebratory and solemn, to honor workers, labor activists and especially to remember and honor workers who died on the job.
Workers’ Memorial Day is a day to commemorate workers who have died on the job. May Day has been the international holiday of the working class since the late 1800s as a result of the fight for the eight-hour day in this country.
This year’s dinner will include a delicious meal, a ceremony honoring Maine workers who died on the job last year, award presentations, entertainment, and raffles.
Three awards will be given this year to strong champions of workers’ rights and workplace safety:
The Bruce Roy Award
The Workers’ Solidarity Award
The Frances Perkins Award
Tickets are $20.00 each or $150.00 for a table (that seats 8 people). Individual tickets can be purchased at the door. However, space is limited, so you must RSVP to Gary McGrane, 659-2890, email@example.com
The Western Maine Central Labor Council’s annual observance of Workers’ Memorial Day/May Day will be Sunday April 26, 2015 form 4:30 to 8:00pm at Franco Center http://www.francocenter.org/, 46 Cedar Street in Lewiston. Socializing, including a cash bar, begins at 4:30 PM; dinner starts at 5:45 pm.
