Dear Fellow Union Members, Friends, and Allies,
The Western Maine Labor Council would like to invite you to the 2017 Annual Workers’ Memorial Day/May Day Dinner on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at the Franco-American Heritage Center, located at 46 Cedar St. in Lewiston. Workers’ Memorial Day is a day to commemorate workers who have died on the job. May Day has been the international holiday of the working class since the late 1800s as a result of the fight for the eight-hour day in this country.
This year’s dinner will include a delicious meal, a ceremony honoring Maine workers who died on the job last year, award presentations, entertainment, and raffles.
Three awards will be given this year to strong champions of workers’ rights and workplace safety:
The Bruce Roy Award: will be given to honor Bob Burns
The Workers’ Solidarity Award: will be given to honor the Teamsters 340 Ryder Strikers
The Frances Perkins Award: will be given to honor John Patrick
I’d like to thank you in advance for your participation. Please join us and bring other members, your friends and family along with you.
